Serena -- this post has been opened as a tab in my browser since you published it back in Oct (2023 - so LAST YEAR!) Yeesh, I'm a mess. Anyway, good on your for trying some cool low tech experiments. I'm excited to see where the light phone takes me. I have heard good things about "mighty" music player, but haven't bought one myself. I think my light phone will be my main phone and then my smartphone will still be a subsidiary tool for certain things, like venmo. it's all to be revealed!
and yes, as mentioned by many, your space is gorgeous. the whole space and concept is swoon-worthy, esp as a mom of 2 crazy kiddos. my bedroom is my sanctuary, as much as possible when sharing it with many other humans...
and part of my light phone experiment is hoping i'll have more time for other activities, such as embroidery and... letter writing. which i adore as a practice. i have never thought about saving copies of my sent letters. very interesting. and although i love writing cards and letters, i have yet to find a good letter-writing partner (ever since the pen pal days of yore...). cheers!
I absolutely love this! My wife and I have almost always slept in separate beds in our twelve years together and we love it.
I recently wrote my first letter in years in response to one my grandma sent me and I'm definitely in love. You have inspired me to write letters to more people!
I highly recommend getting a generic MP3 player for your music. Ipods (and all Apple products for that matter) unfortunately tend to have exclusivity and planned obsolescence baked into their design. Most cheap MP3 players should still work fine with the music you have on your computer though.
Love all part of this. First, amazing your one space. Honestly been thinking about this a lot. Not likely something to happen for me, but i relish that sleeping alone time whenever it does happen!
Also can we please write each other letters?!!!!
And last my friend told me about the app Opal that actually locks you out of certain apps. You’re not on socials so not sure it’d apply as much but I’ve downloaded and haven’t purchased yet but thinking this might be my nudge!
Oh man! This essay is so timely for me. I’m wanting less technology (less noise, really) but without expending lots and lots of energy on it (and without being annoying and prideful about less technology). I also want it for my children who absolutely don’t want it.
Also, I want to write a letter. Also also, I love the beautiful envelopes in your photographs. Maybe I’ll just send someone a pretty envelope, and put a dollar bill in it or a photograph or something else.
I LOVE LETTERS!! I love writing them to send and am utterly delighted when I receive one!
Your space is sublime BTW. I’m so happy for you, Serena. It totally rocks. ❤️

Tabs open since October = story of my life
Ahh the meet up and the follow up. An honor to be mentioned here and Part 1 gave me goose bumps or something giddy like! Letters are in our future.
I have a lock box for my phone and when I open it, is still there in all its pushy glory.

You may be the best mail sender I know.
Over here celebrating your cabin and way of organizing your life💚

Thank you for being here! Planned Obsolescence would be a good title for something.

I want a letter!!
Duh.

Actually, is a desire for less technology really just a desire for more intentionality?
Yes to all of it, but especially the joy of sending a pretty envelope. Letters without words.
